Achievement for All

Transition to Sixth

We recognise that the jump from GCSE to post-16 study is a significant one for most students. All Year 11 students are invited to join us for our successful Induction Day later in the summer term.  This day provides students with the opportunity to sample  introductory lessons and course outlines and, in the afternoon, everyone takes part in a team building activity such as Ten Pin bowling..

During Year 12, students are supported with a dedicated PSHE programme that is delivered for 1 hour per fortnight and a daily tutorial session with their personal tutor. Pastoral support is a key focus of sixth form life both personally and academically and we place a strong emphasis on getting to know all our students on a 1:1 basis. Tutor groups are mixed with both Year 12 and Year 13 so that students can share experiences and support each other throughout their two-year programme of study. Our high quality teaching staff work incredibly hard to get to know students as quickly as possible at the start of the Sixth Form.  It is this personal touch and attention to students’  individual needs that ensure that the students very quickly start to work at the level necessary to be successful in post-16 study.

External students quickly settle in and become a valued part of our 6th Form and often are selected to be part of our prefect team and encouraged to take part in a number of high profile opportunities both within the school and 6th Form. On the Induction Day external students are welcomed and buddied up with one of our 6th Form ambassadors.
