Politics

Politics is available as an A level subject in Years 12 and 13. Students study a broad range of topical issues covering UK Government and Politics in unit 1, from Parliament and Prime Minster to Referendums and Elections. Within the USA Government and Politics unit 2 students study diverse topics from the US Presidency, US Elections and the Supreme Court, alongside a comparison of the two countries. Students also study the political ideologies of Socialism, Liberalism, Conservatism and Nationalism in their third unit.

Politics aims to offer students many opportunities to debate and discuss controversial and topical issues, and students are encouraged to keep up with current news stories in the media. We run an annual trip to London visiting the Houses of Parliament, Downing Street and Whitehall and have had visits from our local MP and councilor to talk about their roles. Studying politics is an excellent foundation for anyone considering careers in law, journalism or the media as well as a broad variety of degree courses.
